Hero Piece: Jaeger Eyelet Gilet
Over the last few years I’ve noticed my opinions on fashion have changed, and with that, so has my thought process when it comes to buying new pieces for my wardrobe. My focus now is on quality rather than quantity and I find myself gravitating towards brands who pride themselves on the long lasting quality of their products. I look to invest in well made core pieces, timeless classics that will see me through the seasons and through the years. Disposable fashion is great for extremely of-the-moment, trend driven items but a staple piece is always something that I return to. Jaeger is a brand who I’ve recently begun to fall in love with and if like me you’re an addict when it comes to minimalist tailoring then you should definitely check out their collections.
Today the focus is all on a certain ‘Hero Piece’. For me when investing in a hero piece it needs to be versatile and that’s certainly a quality of this eyelet gilet. I have a very busy schedule on a day to day basis and there often needs to be the occasional outfit change, so the advantage of having pieces which can transform from day to night is priceless. I’ve styled up the gilet in three different looks just to demonstrate how versatile it really is. Whether it be a casual weekend, a day at work or an evening event this gilet is suited to all.
Casual Weekends
My go-to casual look tends to consist of four rather basic pieces; jeans, tee, blazer and trainers. Throughout the seasons this formula of mine stays the same but with Spring now in full swing that blazer can be substituted for our hero piece, the eyelet gilet. The addition of a tailored piece can completely transform a look, it says ‘hey I’m chic, but I’m also pretty effortless’. Of course at this time of year le Breton Stripe is rife, and rightly so. After all the french have it nailed when it comes to laid back chic and naturally I’m always one to take a little inspiration from them. In this case the horizontal stripes break up the sea of navy whilst maintaining that off-duty vibe.
Workwear Chic
Sharp tailoring is the key factor in a powerful work ensemble. Pairing these sleek ankle grazing trousers with our hero piece creates a more interesting Spring/Summer alternative to the ‘Power Suit’. Adding a pop of colour with this Olive green silk shirt again breaks up that block of navy and also keeps the outfit looking sleek. Accessories are kept minimal to avoid fuss, but by sticking to a similar colour palette this olive leather bag fits in perfectly with the shirt, without feeling too ‘matchy matchy’.
Luxe Evenings
Styling the hero piece up for an evening look starts by ditching sleeves completely. This pale grey sleeveless top allowed me to bare some flesh, yes ok it may be of the arm variety but arms can be sexy and they’re often overlooked. To keep the silhouette looking sleek I’ve added in these slim stretch trousers which when teamed with a pair of killer heels are perfect for elongating those pins. This leather clutch conforms to the minimalistic feel of the look but I’ve also added in a some metallic touches with the jewellery.
