Topshop AW11 Press Day

WARNING: ‘Tenna Ladies’ at the ready, what your about to see may cause accidental excited leakage!

Today has been one of the best days of my life! I couldn’t be more excited about rain, wind, snow and runny noses! Today has all been about Autumn/Winter 2011 and what a day it has been. First off, Topshop’s press day was set at the top of an authentically rustic looking building with bare brick industrial corridors that resembled that of a multi-story carpark. However, after hiking up almost a million stairs I reached the top and this striplighted sign (above) called out to me like a beacon!

Topshop showcased four collections along with shoes, their make-up line and their Unique collection which showed at London Fashion Week back in February this year. There is definitely a retro air in these collections and some the their key pieces have gone straight to the top of my wish list! My favourite collection of theirs, simply titled ‘THRIFT’, had the esscense of a dressing up box with a mixture of vintage from the post-war 40’s and 60’s. A chartuesse crepe dress with a hefty ostrich feather trim was the first thing I lunged for in an unorderly fashion!

‘GLAMROCK’! Now this collection was faux-fur-tastic! As you can see in the picture below, purple shaggy fur coats, ripped skinny jeans, vibrant animal prints and textures galore filled the rails of this grungy, rockstar inspired collection. Topshop have gone with the mentality ‘the bigger the brighter, the better!’ and it just works! The bags in this collection were brilliant, different colours of pony skin, animal printed clutch bags with chunky zippers and black leather, finished off with a neon faux fox tail ala Louis Vuitton! I will definitely be rocking this all-out-glamourous look…the sooner the better!

With rich folkloric inspiration being key to the ‘BAVARIA’ collection (below) it is a modern and distinctly luxurious take on winter warmth. Indulgent faux furs, chunky over-sized knits, Russian style embellishment, velvet and folkish prints…I couldn’t think of a more stylish way to be stuck on the side of the motorway, knee deep in snow. My favourite piece, if I had to pick, and believe me it was a darn tough choice, would be a stunning red structured shift dress with intricate hand beading. Add a faux fur trapper hat and muffler and you’re good to go.
How incredible is this dress (below)?! A white pleated crepe skirt and a black leather cut out bodice, could there be a more modern take on Marylin Monroe? This dress was my favourite piece out of Topshop’s last collection titled ‘PYSCHOBILLY’. Saphire blue is the key colour featured on tailored cigarette trousers, chunky knitts and wool crombie coats. This collection is an updated and feminine take on the rebellious dressing of the teddyboys of the 60’s.

Let’s not forget my favourite item of all time…shoes! Patent, loafers, velvet, studding, glitter, platforms, suede, and leopard print, you name it, they had it! Heels are high with a chunky substantial platform, leopard print is widely used across many styles and metallic details in studs, gold heels and glitter makes for a shoe wish list fit for a queen. Get in line Kate Middleton…me first!

I am only limited to posting 5 pictures at this time but as soon as I get the go ahead from the god that is Topshop I will post more for you all 🙂
