You'll have heard me talking about 'all-black' outfits a lot over the years and for good reason, they are always a fail safe option when you're stuck for something to wear. Today I just want to focus on the fact that they aren't just for Winter, black looks great in any season and it's a very simple way to look effortlessly chic. I know what you're all going to say, wearing black on a hot summer's day is not a great idea because it attracts the heat from the sun. Well this is correct to an extent but there are some valuable physics behind it all. Wearing white reflects the sun rays and heat coming in, but it also reflects the heat from your own body going out, so you're trapped in your own body heat, ew. Wearing black absorbs the heat from the sun but it also absorbs the heat from your own body, and if there's even the slightest bit of wind, your black clothing will expel this heat back into the atmosphere, thus making black the coolest colour to be wearing this summer. There you have it, you can't argue with physics.
Then it's all down to fabrics. This black t-shirt from the RosieHW x Paige collection is 100% linen and buying quality basics like this will really save your skin. The linen fabric allows your skin to breathe, keeping you much cooler than a cheaply made viscose t-shirt for example. If your budget can't quite stretch to the RosieHW x Paige collection then I can also recommend this 100% organic cotton t-shirt (available in a range of colours) from Mango which is under a tenner. I think we all know how treacherous denim can be in the heat so you could swap a tight fitting pair of jeans for some linen trousers or linen shorts. If like me you feel like a limb is missing if you aren't wearing some kind of denim on a daily basis then why not try tucking your cotton t-shirt into a belted black denim skirt and pairing with some black ankle boots and a fedora. It's an easy, cool-girl look that you can accessorise with your choice of jewellery and even a bandana tied around your wrist to act as a sweatband.
