What A Difference Hair Care Can Make

Nexxus Emergencee haircare range

I have to be honest, when it comes to haircare I haven't always been so, well, bothered.  It's only been over the last few years that I've come to realise that it is does matter what I put on my hair, it matters a lot.  If it was on offer, a BOGOF maybe, or a new fruity scent had been tantalisingly marketed by way of a woman showering in a tropical waterfall then yes, I would buy that £2 shampoo and conditioner.  I was never loyal to a certain brand, so long as it smelled like a bag of jelly babies then I was happy as Larry, but my hair never really changed. Of course it always felt silky and looked glossy but that definitely didn’t mean it was ever in tip top condition. I finally broke free of these bad hair habits about 3 years ago and now I love finding haircare products that actually make a difference to my hair in the way they should.

I've been using the new Emergencee range by Nexxus for the last month and I can confirm that my hair has certainly reaped the benefits.  As you all know, my hair is colour treated and has been since I was about 14, and because I'm a blonde, this means a lot of bleach so my hair does fall into the 'damaged' category.  I'm also a big fan of a curling wand so heat damage can be added to the long list of abuse my hair has to put up with.  The Emergencee range provides a reconstructive system to reinforce the hair shaft's structure with the Leave-In Creme reducing 95% of breakage, yes 95%!  Our hair is 90% protein and, every time we wash it, it loses some of these proteins which results in dryness and dullness, not good.  Nexxus pride themselves on their protein rich formulas in all of their ranges which helps to replenish the lost nutrients in the hair and reconstructs the broken protein structure.  This might sound all very technical but when it comes to hair, technical is exactly what you need.

So what is my haircare routine?  When hopping in the shower I grab my Nexxus Emergencee Shampoo and Conditioner.  I wash my hair every other day unless I've been to the gym or been doing some DIY and it needs a wash, but for the most part I can go 2 days without washing.  For my non-wash days when I jump in the shower I tie my hair in a low bun and pop a shower cap on...but you'll notice there are no shower cap images in this post haha.  When washing my hair I probably use more than I should with the shampoo, I'm just one of those people, and every time I instantly regret it because a little does go a long way with this stuff.  I massage into my scalp and spread the shampoo through the ends and then rinse thoroughly.  I apply a very small amount of conditioner to the ends and mid lengths of my hair but never the roots.  I leave this in whilst I wash, shave, exfoliate etc and then rinse it out with warm water, and give one further rinse at the end with cooler water.  I use the hand held shower head for this to avoid the cold water running all over my body, because trust me, in Winter that is not a welcome feeling.  The cooler water closes the cuticle of the hair, which seals in all that moisture from the conditioner and leaves you with shiny, healthy looking hair.

Since using the Emergencee range my hair has become more healthy looking, softer to the touch (so much so I can't stop running my fingers through it) and it smells uh-mazing! I know you guys have noticed it too judging from all the positive comments and #hairgoals on my Instagram.

Once I'm out of the shower I wrap my hair in a towel and squeeze the moisture out, I don't rub, this can damage your hair.  If there is any moisture still left in the ends I clamp my hair in a towel until the moisture is absorbed.  As I mentioned earlier, my hair is damaged and it can be quite dry, no matter what the season so I use this Nexxus leave-in creme (also from the Emergencee range) which leaves my hair feeling smoother and softer and the Marine Collagen recharges and repairs the lost protein.  One pump does the trick and I rub this in my hands then through the ends and mid-lengths of my hair, again treating it like a conditioner and avoiding the roots.  I either leave my hair to naturally dry or blow dry and style depending on what I'm doing in the day.

As a special treat for me and my hair I always have a relaxing bath on a Sunday evening.  It's my favourite time of the week and probably the only time where I don't have my phone in my hand and I can truly relax.  Nearing the end of my relaxation in the tub, I apply the Nexxus Emergencee Hair Masque through to the mid-lengths and ends of my hair and then tie in a loose bun. I leave the masque on for 5 minutes and rinse this out with cold water once I'm out of the bath.  I just hang over the end of the bath and use the shower attachment to rinse all the product out, and I'm always amazed at how gorgeously soft my hair feels.

Now that I'm a reformed woman with my haircare I put my trust in brands that know exactly what they're doing, and Nexxus have been around since 1979 (Tribeca NY), so in my eyes, they've got the know how.  Nexxus founder Jheri Redding was the first in the industry to introduce Keratin (protein) and natural ingredients (aloe vera) into hair care products, and I'm all up for 'paving the way'.  For years Nexxus was a salon only brand, in fact, I remember when a trendy new salon opened up in the small town where I grew up and they used Nexxus products, this was the place to be.  But now Nexxus products are widely available throughout the UK and you can find all their ranges here on Amazon, so no matter what your hair type, there's a range for you.
