Black. Noir. I just can’t get enough of it. Over the last few months my wardrobe has expanded into a dark mass, a black hole if you will, literally, but I won’t be making any apologies for this. Black is universal and timeless, you could buy anything in black and I can guarantee that it will stay in your wardrobe for ten times longer than that “on-trend” colour you thought was a good idea at the time. I’m not adverse to colour, I wanna lay that straight, and I admire anyone who can pull off canary yellow without looking like Big Bird, not something I would dare to do now (Been there, done that). French brand La Redoute has always been a firm favourite of mine for finding key black pieces because as we all know the French, Parisians in particular are the masters of black.
I’m a huge lover of an all black outfit but on occasion when everything is blocked together you can lose the detail in some of the pieces you’re wearing. So I have a few tips to combat this and to give a bit of depth to your all black looks:
Add Texture
Faux fur, leather, lace velvet; by adding a textured piece, like this velvet blazer to your look the fabric will reflect light in a different way to a plain black fabric
Pattern
Animal Print, Polkadots, checks; a black print will naturally break up the block colour, I’d alway’s opt for adding a print on the top half of the look, either a slight check blazer or printed blouse as I have done here
Fade
Acid wash denim isn’t quite grey, it’s still dark enough to pass as black but again it will break up the look adding some depth
